Reeftalk focuses on anchialine pools
A Reeftalk will discuss the effects of land use, introduced species and sea-level rise on Hawaiian anchialine pool ecosystems tonight in Kawaihae.
The Reeftalk runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site in Kawaihae. Lisa Marrack, a doctoral candidate at University of California Berkeley, will make the presentation.
Born and raised on the Big Island, Marrack is a marine ecologist who has worked for nine years at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park on a wide range of natural resource projects including: coral reef health assessments, water quality monitoring, anchialine pool investigations and sea turtle monitoring. She is now studying anchialine pools along the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail. There, she is investigating the potential combined effects of land use, introduced species, and sea level rise on these ecosystems.
